About True Finance

Small loans, straight answers

True Finance connects people the big banks overlook with licensed lenders for $200–$5,000 personal loans, and publishes the plain-English information those borrowers rarely get. We are not a lender, we never charge a fee to request, and we say so on every page.

Why we exist

Most people who need $1,000 are not offered anything honest

A car repair, a dental bill, a rent gap. When the bank says no, the options that show up first are payday storefronts, title loans and "guaranteed approval" ads at 300% APR. The installment loan at a fair rate exists, but it is buried under products designed to be rolled over.

True Finance was built to put the honest option first: one request that reaches licensed lenders, real APRs shown before anyone signs, and guides that explain what things cost in dollars, not marketing.

We are compensated by lenders when a connection is made. That is the whole business model, and it never changes the offers you see.

Lender standards

How we vet lenders

Every lender in the network agrees to six standards. Failing any one of them means removal.

  1. Licence in every state servedWe check each lender's licence or registration with the state regulator before it joins the network and re-check quarterly.
  2. Full Truth in Lending disclosureEvery offer must show the APR, payment schedule, total cost and all fees before e-signature. No "fee disclosed at funding."
  3. No upfront fees, everA lender that asks for any payment before funding is removed immediately.
  4. Complaint monitoringWe review CFPB, BBB and state complaint records. A pattern of unresolved complaints means removal.
  5. Ability-to-repay underwritingLenders must assess income and expenses, not just credit score, and may not lend amounts a borrower cannot reasonably repay.
  6. Positive credit reportingWe prefer lenders that report on-time payments to at least one bureau so a loan can help your credit.

Editorial standards

Figures are real and dated

Rates, payments and comparisons are calculated with standard amortization at the APRs lenders in our network publish. Each page shows a last-reviewed date and is checked at least quarterly. When a figure changes, the page changes.

No pay-to-rank

We do not accept payment to rank one lender or product above another in content. Compensation applies to loan connections only and is disclosed in our advertiser disclosure.

Sources you can check

Guides cite the CFPB, FTC, NCUA, Federal Reserve and state regulators. If we cannot source a claim, we do not make it.

Written for the borrower

Every page answers the question someone with a bill due actually has: what it costs, who qualifies, and what to avoid. If a product is a bad idea, we say so.
